Job Description:
Astronauts are highly trained professionals who are responsible for conducting scientific research, performing maintenance and repair tasks, and operating spacecraft and other equipment in space. They are also responsible for conducting spacewalks, performing experiments, and collecting data.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting scientific research and experiments in space
- Operating spacecraft and other equipment in space
- Performing maintenance and repair tasks on spacecraft and other equipment
- Conducting spacewalks and collecting data
- Communicating with mission control and other team members on Earth
- Keeping detailed records of all activities and observations
- Participating in training and simulation exercises
- Assisting with the launch and landing of spacecraft
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics)
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (e.g. military pilot, test pilot, engineer)
- Must be a US citizen
- Must be able to pass a rigorous physical examination
- Must be able to pass psychological and medical evaluations
Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong knowledge of physics, mathematics, and engineering
- Strong knowledge of space technology and space systems
- Strong knowledge of computer systems and software
- Strong physical fitness and ability to tolerate extreme conditions
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong ability to handle stress and adapt to changing situations
Salary Range:
According to NASA, the salary range for astronauts is between $64,724 and $141,715 per year.
