Job Role: Recreation Worker

Job Description:

Recreation workers plan, organize, and lead leisure activities for groups in a variety of settings, such as parks, community centers, and residential care facilities. They may work with people of all ages and abilities, and may specialize in specific activities such as sports, arts and crafts, or outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and organize recreational activities and events for groups
• Lead activities and facilitate participation
• Provide instruction and supervision to participants
• Maintain equipment and facilities
• Monitor and ensure the safety of participants
• Communicate with participants and their families to gather feedback and address any concerns
• Collaborate with other staff members and community partners to provide a wide range of activities and services
• Maintain accurate records and reports on program participation and progress

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Some experience in recreation or a related field
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work with people of all ages and abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical stamina and ability to lead and participate in recreational activities
• Valid driver’s license

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a related field is preferred but not always necessary
• CPR and first aid certification
• Experience working with specific populations such as children, seniors, or people with disabilities is beneficial
• Certification in specific areas such as coaching, lifeguarding, or arts instruction is also beneficial

Salary Range (USA):

The median annual salary for recreation workers is $25,180, with a range of $19,260 to $37,830 depending on experience, location, and type of employer.
